The majority of the  images on this site were captured or made by many different  photographers and scientists of different branches and agencies of the United States government. The rest were captured by freelance and amateur photographers in the region when Hurricane Katrina hit. 

We try to maintain a  high resolution copy of all of the images you see on this site. While you may see a cut and paste image on another site like one that you have found here, you will not find the high number of  consistently high quality images that you see here. Many agencies offer lower quality, lower resolution, lower dynamic range, cut and paste images. We do not.

We carefully screen and edit each image we obtain, individually, to ensure we present a not only a compelling image, but one of  high technical quality for web display, print, or you publishing needs as well.
